Okay I am trying decide on this offer to go to NYC. I used to live there (for 3 years) so I know all about the cold and the attitude (haha) but seriously it is something I have been considering anyway. I got an offer from the NYCHA (thru a headhunter), which is not only nearly doubling my salary, but is willing to wait for me to gather my crap and move and get settled in. They are even 'offering' me an advance on my salary for these things, as an incentive. HOWEVER, it is only a 6-month contract assignment. I have been told, and even been contacted a couple of times before 'out of the blue' (just like this time) from recruiters in NYC interested in me. I told them in those past situations it wasn't feasible for me at the time, and they said if I ever decide to move back there I'd have pretty much no trouble finding a job based on my experience and skill set. I am a bit hesitant... i just moved to another apartment just 3 months ago, and I am not sure if I can break the lease. My landlord is pretty easy-going, but any landlord is going to be displeased (to say the least) about a tenant breaking a lease. I might be able to find a sublet to take it over (it would be pretty easy, its a very nice place in a great location here in Houston), but he'd have to allow it first. My question is, would it be worth it? Leaving friends and family here? I'm not that happy here anyway, as I was born and raised here, and kind of grown tired of it. I do remember why I left NYC (about 10 years ago), to be closer to family mostly. It took quite a while to get used to winters there but I definitely prefer cool weather over hot weather (def. more hotter weather here in TX.) Comments/answers from Texans living in NYC would be ESPECIALLY helpful!... read more
